In Central Auckland, Sport Auckland’s ActivAsian aims to provide quality and safe play, active recreation and sports opportunities for the Asian community that tailor to your needs. There are a variety of activities where you can make friends, get active, and learn something new!
Since 2018, we have co-designed/co-delivered popular opportunities, for example,
Sports programmes: Spike Spin Smash (badminton, basketball, and table tennis), Squash programme, Volleyball programme for young people and adults respectively
Active recreation programmes: Chinese Line Dance, Chinese Folk Dance, Hip Hop Dance, Learn to Swim, Street Jazz Dance for girls and women respectively, Plalking, Taichi, Yoga, Walk with Us
Workshops: Girls and Women Self-Defence Workshops, First Aid Workshops, Volunteering Workshops, and Water Safety Workshops
Have A Go events: Girls Football Have A Go, Lawn Bowl Have A Go, Tennis Have A Go, Multi-sport Have A Go (part of Dominion Road Moon Festival)
Online opportunities: Daily Active At Home, Home-Based Workout, Christmas Day Countdown Challenge, and 21-Day Exercise Challenge

The regional ActivAsian partners Aktive, CLM Community Sport, Harbour Sport, Sport Auckland and Sport Waitākere conducted an online survey exploring the effect of COVID-19 restrictions on Asian communities’ physical activity and wellbeing. A report on the survey results was released in April 2022. It provides helpful insights for the sports and recreation sector as New Zealand finds itself dealing with changing norms due to the pandemic. To view the full report please click the link below.
Walk with us: engaging new migrants in regular physical activity; introducing new migrants to the local environment, facilities, parks, reserves etc; and providing an opportunity for new migrants to socialize and become physically active. This free activity runs every Sunday morning when weather permits.

ActivAsian Volunteering Programme
The ActivAsian volunteering program aims to provide young Asians in Auckland with the opportunities to participate in the local community through volunteering at sport and recreation events/programs, leading to connections forming with local clubs, community groups and schools.
